Mark Noble to be honoured with fan tribute and presentation after final home game vs Manchester City
Mark Noble will be honoured with a post-match presentation and a giant fan mosaic as part of West Ham’s plans to bid farewell to a club legend in his final home appearance this weekend.
Noble is retiring at the end of the season after making well over 500 appearances across an 18-year career with the Hammers and Sunday’s meeting with Manchester City will be a last opportunity for the London Stadium to show its gratitude.
A number of Noble’s closest former teammates will be at the game, while giant banners in the centre-circle and hanging from the roof of the stadium’s East Stand will pay homage to the midfielder with his name and shirt No16.
The 35-year-old is unlikely to start against Pep Guardiola’s side and there is not expected to be a traditional guard of honour ahead of kick-off, but both sets of fans and players will participate in a “moment of appreciation”.
Both West Ham and Noble are keen to ensure his send-off does not overshadow the magnitude of the game in a wider context ahead of kick-off.
The hosts know victory would see them climb above Manchester United into sixth and a Europa League place, while City would all-but seal the Premier League title with a win, given their significant goal-difference advantage over second-placed Liverpool.
After the match, Noble will lead David Moyes’ side on their usual end-of-season lap of honour, before a more formal presentation, conducted by Ben Shephard, offers a final tribute.

You will hear a lot in the coming weeks and months about legacy. That there isn't one. That if UK Athletics leave the London Stadium to football, the Olympic bequest has been squandered.
Don't believe a word of it. What is about to happen now, is what should have happened more than a decade ago. The Olympic Stadium was never viable as the home of athletics.
There was never going to be legacy in one or two track events a year, plus the odd pop concert. London has Wembley for concerts. It's where Live Aid was held. Michael Jackson performed there. The Olympic Stadium was always jostling for attention in a crowded field in the capital.
So football was the only answer. Right from the start. Sir Steven Redgrave said as much even before a brick was laid. Yet Ken Livingstone, Tessa Jowell and Lord Coe - funny how his love for the game perked up recently - conspired to reject the most obvious solution, leaving the country staring into a financial black hole.
The reason West Ham struck what some call the deal of the century was that by then it was obvious that without an anchor tenant, the stadium was going to become another bottomless money pit, like the Millennium Dome. Baroness Brady drove a hard bargain. The Government's negotiators had no hand.
Incredibly, it has taken another 10 years for the most obvious legacy solution, the only legacy solution in fact, to even be contemplated. Talks are ongoing about UKA walking away and making their home elsewhere. They would receive between £10-15million to facilitate this process.
West Ham would then be free to remould the arena for football. Fans nearer to the pitch, the seating reconfigured. With an average league attendance of 59,088 this season - the third biggest in the country - there is a good football ground struggling to get out from under all that bad planning.
Nineteen home games a season, plus cup matches, maybe even Europe: that's legacy. The odd sparsely supported Diamond League event, or a backward-looking Anniversary Games once a year is not.
West Ham got more to their family fun day than UKA did to their last track meet. Athletics does not need 60,000 seats. It could have a more logical, manageable home in Birmingham after the Commonwealth Games, or at a revamped Crystal Palace.
The London Stadium, we are often informed, costs this country millions. Not as a football stadium, it doesn't. If all it did was host West Ham and the odd one-off gig in the summer, it would show a healthy profit.
The drain is the annual conversion to host athletics. There is no betrayal, then, in assessing what works and what does not: it is not feasible amid a cost of living crisis to pay £3m for one athletics meeting each year.
We do not have to worship at the altar of Super Saturday for ever. We certainly do not have to unthinkingly commemorate an Olympic Games we now know to be the most corrupted in history.
There are now in excess of 100 positive tests from that Games, with numbers growing all the time. When the winner of the men's 94kg weightlifting gold later tested positive, his medal couldn't be awarded to the silver medallist, because he had also turned out to be a cheat.
So had the bronze medallist, and the athlete who came fourth, and sixth, and seventh. That's who should get a statue in Olympic Park - any poor soul who paid top dollar to watch that travesty.
So it was fun while it lasted, we all had a good time, but now it's over and we need to settle the bill. It is time to finally give the London Stadium the legacy it deserves; by keeping it full.

West Ham are interested in signing Bologna midfielder Jerdy Schouten this summer
West Ham are monitoring Bologna's highly-rated midfielder Jerdy Schouten ahead of a potential summer swoop.
Hammers scouts have watched the 25-year-old extensively this season and have been impressed by the Dutchman's performances.
David Moyes will look to strengthen his squad this summer as he looks to keep pace with West Ham's rivals at the top of the Premier League following another good season under his tutelage.
Schouten is also interesting a number of clubs in Italy; Roma - managed by Jose Mourinho - and Napoli are among the teams also interested in the midfielder.
But West Ham are maneuvering themselves into a position to strike for Schouten this summer.
With captain Mark Noble retiring, the Hammers are on the look out for fresh legs in central midfield ahead of next season.
Similarly, there is a degree of uncertainty over the futures of Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek as we head into the summer transfer window, with both midfielders admired by a host of Premier League teams.

Report suggests £8m captain would love to join West Ham or Everton

Mainz captain Moussa Niakhate wants to join a Premier League club with Everton and West Ham United keen on the Bundesliga giant, as reported by BILD.
Earlier this week, recently de-throned Sporting Lisbon confirmed the £9 million signing of former Dutch U21 international Jerry St Juste from the Bundesliga high-flyers.
Mainz coach Bo Svensson feared that both St Juste and Niakhate could head for the exit this summer. With one gone, and the other attracting interest, his prophecy could be about to come true.
Niakhate has just one year left on his contract.
And the penalty-taking centre-half, who captains a Mainz side who have gone from relegation candidates to European hopefuls in the blinking of an eye, may be available for as little as £8 million with Everton and West Ham both in the market for defensive reinforcements (The Telegraph).
Everton and West Ham want Moussa Niakhate
And it seems that Niakhate would jump at the opportunity to join either Frank Lampard or David Moyes on British soil.
According to BILD, VFL Wolfsburg recently approached the 6ft 3ins man mountain to enquire about whether or not he’d be willing to swap the Rhineland for Saxony.
Niakhate, however, issued a firm response, making it clear that he is holding out for what is described as an ‘economically attractive’ offer from a Premier League club. Now, what you can deduce from that is Niakhate has clearly come to the conclusion that the money on offer in England far outstrips that of the Bundesliga.
According to Salary Sport, Niakhate earns around £12,000-a-week at Mainz. It almost goes without saying that he’d be in line for a substantial pay rise at Goodison Park or the London Stadium.
“I think yes,” Niakhate tells RMC Sport when asked if 2021/22 is the best season of his career so far.
“I’m happy with what I’m doing this year. I know that I am progressing and that I am better every season. I’ve managed to improve my game, to grow. I think I’m a better player every year.
“I am much calmer on the pitch. Having more responsibilities gives me even more desire to give everything. I feel stronger defensively, more solid, stronger also with the ball when I’m under pressure. And I’m more decisive offensively.”
